Miss Saigon Journey : Auditions (UK and Ireland Tour 2017-2018)

In 2016, I auditioned for the Miss Saigon UK and International Tour in Manila. I was very hesitant at the beginning as I was preparing for my Graduation Recital. But of course, IT IS Miss Saigon! Lea Salonga won a Tony Award because of it. Who wouldn’t want to get the chance to experience performing in a production as big as this one?

Anyway, I tried my best and I got until the second stage of the auditions. To be very honest, I couldn’t remember what happened on that second audition. Somehow, my mind has erased a traumatic memory. Yes, I would say “traumatic” for dramatic purposes. I actually thought that I was not given an opportunity to really show what I can do. But that’s a wrong way of thinking. You are only given a few minutes to show that you ARE that ROLE! I spent half of mine being nervous.

A few months later, graduation came and I decided to finally move back to the UK. I saw an ad about another “Open Auditions” for Miss Saigon. I went for it again and this time, I didn’t even get a second audition! Oh well, another heartbreak. After getting an agent and going to a bunch of auditions, I got another chance. Only this time, they asked me to sing “I’d Give My Life for You”. I rehearsed, day and night. I got the second and third auditions and I didn’t tell anyone! I didn’t want to jinx it. Well, after not hearing from them for more than a week, I decided to just forget about it. I was used to being rejected at this point.

I heard from them when I was about to go to the Philippines for a quick holiday. Of course I rebooked my flight! I did that last audition in 2017, hoped for the best and

prayed so much that I told God I wouldn’t take “no” for an answer now. I wanted it so bad.

After a week or so, I heard the news that I got accepted!
